Ciplox is manufactured by Cipla. The 250 mg, 500 mg tablets are available in a 10 tablet pack. It is also available in capsule and syrup form to be taken orally. It can also be administered as an injection by your healthcare provider or in the form of eye or ear drops.

Details

Ciprofloxacin works by destroying the bacteria that causes the infection. The medication has a therapeutic classification as Quinolones, eye anti-infective and antiseptic and ear anti-infective and antiseptic.
Ciprofloxacin is a Category C drug. Animal reproduction research has shown ciprofloxacin has caused adverse effects on the fetus. Despite lack of adequate controlled research on the effects in human reproduction the possible advantages may outweigh the potential risks of ciprofloxacin use by pregnant women.

Warnings and Precautions

Follow your doctor's instruction for taking Ciplox. Do not take more than the amount prescribed.
You should not take Ciplox if you have had allergic reactions to antibiotic medications such as levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, moxifloxacin, nalidixic acid, norfloxacin or ofloxacin. Signs of an allergic reaction include:

• Rash
• Red swollen eyes
• Shortness of breath

Seek immediate medical attention if you take an accidental overdose of Ciplox or if you experience any of the following severe reactions:

• Blue or gray skin color
• Chest pain or tightness
• Diarrhea
• Fever
• Itching
• Muscle pain or weakness
• Numbness in feet or hands
• Pain or swelling in the joints, ankles, or back
• Rapid heartbeat
• Seizures
• Severe cough
• Severe upset stomach
• Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Vomiting
• Wheezing

If you forget to take a dose of Ciplox, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose. Do not take an extra dose to make up for the missed one. Do not stop taking or change your dosage without your doctor's approval.

Ciplox should not be taken with dairy products, for instance milk, cheese, ice cream, or yogurt. The effectiveness of Ciplox is decreased when taken at the same time as dairy products. You should take Ciplox two hours before or six hours after eating dairy products. You should also avoid beverages that contain caffeine such as coffee, tea, and sodas that contain caffeine.

Do not drink alcohol while taking Ciplox.
Before taking Ciplox tell your doctor if you are pregnant or a breast feeding mother. Unless instructed to do so by your doctor, you should not take ciprofloxacin if you are pregnant. Children or teenagers should not take ciprofloxacin unless their doctor has prescribed it for them.

Drug Interactions

As with most medications, there is a chance of experiencing a drug interaction when taking Ciplox. Tell your doctor what medication you take including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, and herbal remedies.
Do not take Ciplox with antacids or vitamin supplements that contain aluminum, calcium, iron, zinc, or magnesium. These compounds reduce the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin. If you have to take antacids or vitamin supplements take Ciplox at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking the antacid or supplement.

Tell your doctor if you take any of the following medications:

• Amiodarone
• Ciclosporin
• Cisapride
• Coumadin or Warfarin
• Diabetes medications
• Didanosine
• Methotrexate
• Phenytoin
• Psychiatric medications
• Ropinirole
• Sotalol
• Sucralfate
• Theophylline
• Tizanidine

How to use

Ciplox should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The generally recommended adult dose ranges from 250 to 750 mg per day.  Ciplox should be taken with a full glass of water as prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

There is the possibility of having side effects when taking Ciplox. Common side effects include:

• Diarrhea
• Stomach pain
• Upset stomach
• Vomiting

Eating Yogurt or probiotics may help relieve the symptoms.
In very rare instances, patients may have tendon pain or tears in the tendons.

In very rare instances, severe allergic reactions have occurred.
If you experience a side effect that persists or gets worse, get medical attention as soon as possible.
Seek immediate medical attention for all allergic reactions.
