A selective oestrogen receptor modulator called tamoxifen is used to treat and prevent breast cancer in both men and women. It is also being investigated for other cancer types. Albright syndrome has been treated using it.

Gynecomastia can be prevented and treated with tamoxifen. It is used to treat any symptoms, such as nipple discomfort or sensitivity, or taken as a prophylactic strategy in modest dosages. Clomifene and anti-aromatase medicines, which are used to try to prevent the hormone-related side effects, are taken for similar goals.
